Tennis Legends Descend on London

Some of the top tennis names of the past descend on London in the run-up to Christmas when the Statoil Masters Competition takes place at the iconic Royal Albert Hall.Names like John McEnroe,Pat Cash,Mats Wilander,Goran Ivanisevic,Tim Henman will compete

The London 2012 Olympic Games tennis competition may be over but there is another exciting tennis event coming up in the UK which will delight tennis fans in Great Britain and visitors from abroad.

Take the breathtaking,iconic venue,the world famous Royal Albert Hall in Kensington Gore,London built in 1871,throw in some of the most famous names in tennis,a fun,pre-Christmas atmosphere and what do you have?One of the most popular annual tennis events of all-time.

The Statoil Masters is owned by IMG the global sports,fashion and media company  and to play in this competition players must have been ranked Number One in the world,played in a Grand Slam singles final or played for the victorious team in a Davis Cup final.

The 2012 competition runs from December 5-9 and the line-up reads like a Who's Who of tennis

Goran Ivanisevic won the Masters title at the same venue in 2010 and Swedish player Mats Wilander is a seven times Grand Slam winner.He won the French Open 3 times in 1982,85 and 88,the Australian Open 3 times in 1983,84 and 88 and the US Open once in 1988.Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam he never managed to conquer although he reached the last eight 3 times.

London-based Australian Pat Cash,famous for his black and white headband,won Wimbledon in 1987 and was the first player to leave the court and climb up the stands to embrace his family.

There will be not one but two Champions defending their title at the Royal Albert Hall this year.Tim Henman,who beat Thoma Enqvist to take the Masters title in 2011 hopes to repeat the success and the legendary John McEnroe,famous for his "You can't be serious" outbursts is defending the title he won in the older age group.
